At the time of its completion the new headquarters building for Commerzbank in Frankfurt was the tallest building in Europe. Today, over 2500 people work there, but this is no ordinary office block.

The Commerzbank building is different. It is flooded with daylight and, for much of the time, is naturally ventilated. Though a deep-plan building, its full-height central atrium affords every office and work station a clear view of the outside world. Evenly distributed over the height of the building, its four-storey-high landscaped gardens combine with the central atrium to unlock the internal space and transform the working environment.

Commerzbank – pp 286-287
