The result of over three years work involving close collaboration between Norman Foster, the celebrated German designer Otl Aicher, and the editing and book production skills of Ian Lambot, the initial three volumes of Norman Foster: Buildings and Projects set new standards in the design and editorial scope for architectural monographs, which have stood as the benchmark for such volumes ever since.

A fourth volume covering projects built between 1982 and 1989 followed four years later, before the volumes were taken fully inhouse by Foster and Partners and reformatted to cope with the explosion in the scale and scope of work the practice has realised in the years since.
